How to Light Your Kitchen
When it comes time to decide on new lighting for a kitchen, both looks and function need to be at the forefront. If you’ve ever tried to work in a kitchen where there are only recessed downlights plonked in the ceiling in the “walkway” space, you’ll know that shadows thrown in front of you can be a terrible enemy. You may even have chopping scars on your hands to prove it.
Task lighting over the bench can take many forms, not just the standard three pendants over the island. Think long linear styles for a modern feel and clean lines, or play with scale - small-scale pendants create a contemporary minimalist feel, while larger feature pendants create character and a focal point. Cluster a pair or group of pendants at one end for a playful asymmetric look, or even cover the width of whole island in pendants at randomised heights for a truly bespoke designer statement.

Your kitchen lighting can be as unique as you are.
If you have a smaller, open-plan space, you may choose to save the bold feature piece for the dining table. In this case, surface mounted "can" down lights can be a good choice to define the kitchen zone without overcrowding the room.
LED strip lighting underneath upper cabinets provides great functional light to your bench top along the wall, and also gives a beautiful ambiance. Don’t forget your pantry or scullery!
